Great night on Saturday at Peter Barlow's Cigarette in Manchester. Thanks to Gareth, Rachel and Richard for asking me along to read there. Another outing for 'What the Tree Said'. It was lovely to meet up with Nathan Thompson and hear his new work - I read with him in Liverpool a couple of years ago and have been teaching his pamphlet the day maybe died (tributes and torched songs) Imagining China which he seemed pleased to know about. Also, very enjoyable to hear Lucy Burnett talking about and reading her intriguing arrangements of words. Steve Spence's energetic (great blends of sound play and humor) reading was a perfect way to finish the evening. I came away with three books (one exchange in the post!) - ...or, The Night Terrors by Nathan Thompson (Oystercatcher Press), Crabtree by Tom Jenks (The Red Ceilings Press), and Two Fat Boys by James Davis (Knives, Forks, Spoons).
