On Wednesday I had the opportunity to meet with Maggie O’Sullivan at Edge Hill before she performed a reading of her work later that evening. Maggie O’Sullivan is one of the poets whose work I am researching so it was a treat to be able to chat to her and to be there while she spoke to the MA group. Before Maggie O’Sullivan’s reading in the Rose theatre that evening I performed (some of the Map poems and the Mina Loy sequence) as did Tom Jenks. It was exciting and not a little daunting to perform for someone whose work I admire. The highlight of all this was of course hearing Maggie O’Sullivan read a selection of her work. I have heard her read via recordings and videos but to actually be present at one of her readings, to witness that live performance, is something else entirely. It has also been vital for the work (which is in early stages) that I am doing on her poetry. Many thanks to Maggie for an enchanting and inspiring performance which has given me further insight and perspective on her work.
